RUA SOUL
aka RORY COMERFORD
Musical director, composer, songwriter, session musician, producer and educator with over 15 years experience in live, studio, theatre and film work. Performing from age four, trained in Composition and Guitar at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. Co-created upwards of 30 record releases, as a session player, song-writer and producer.
Notable work includes:
Commissions for BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, Psappha Ensemble, Sound Festival and National Galleries of Scotland. Musical Direction for International theatre production ‘Morag, You’re a Long Time Deid’. Production on Mali-I's recent album 'In Session', plus session recording work with Paix, Monzanto Sound, Kevin Daniel Cahill, Fairweather Friends and Zazim.
Project lead on international album collaboration 'Yarrow' funded by Creative Scotland Open Fund; New Approaches to Traditional Music project funded by Aberdeenshire Council Youth Music Initiative; Traditional Arts Mentoring project with Christine Kydd funded by Creative Scotland; Spikker performance development funded by Sound Scotland.
Performed on, written and produced releases for labels Rhythm Section International, None More Records and XXIII.
Venues & Festivals such as Jazz Cafe, Aberdeen Music Hall, Glasgow Jazz festival at Oran Mor, Push Festival Vancouver, Worldwide FM, Kelburn Garden Party, Doune The Rabbit Hole Festival and many more.

Film & Theatre music I have made has been shown at:- Glasgow Film Festival, Scottish Queer International Film Festival, Fringe of Colour, Scottish Storytelling Centre, Rathaussaal Telfs, Take Me Somewhere Festival, Buzzcut Festival and Touchstone Theatre.
In addition to mentoring and co-writing with Mawaddah for their latest EP, I am currently co-writing and arranging with PAIX for her debut solo album and writing for a new Rua Soul record.
